The Two Technologies Every Grow Facility Must Have:
Direct UV Surface Treatment + Active Air & HVAC Sanitization
Indoor cultivation doesn’t just grow plants — it also creates ideal conditions for microorganisms.
Spores, bacteria, yeast, mildew, and mold thrive in sealed, high-humidity, high-biomass environments. Once established, they are expensive to eliminate and difficult to keep from returning.
That’s why professional cultivation facilities rely on two complementary biosecurity strategies working together:
- Direct surface and plant treatment (UV)
- Continuous air and HVAC sanitization
Together, these reduce pathogen pressure before outbreaks occur and also attack current outbreaks.
Direct UV Surface & Plant Sterilization (UVC & UVB)
When microbes land on a surface or leaf, the fastest way to stop them is direct UV exposure.
How It Works
- UVC (≈275 nm) damages DNA and RNA, killing pathogens outright
- UVB (≈295 nm) suppresses biological pressure and can be used on plants when applied correctly
Why Facilities Need Direct UV
Air filtration alone does not eliminate:
- Spores already on plants
- Surface contamination on walls, floors, benches, and trellis
- Pathogen buildup under dense canopies
- Contaminated tools, carts, and post-harvest areas
Direct UV allows growers to neutralize contamination where it actually exists — immediately.
- Medium flower and veg rooms
- High airflow, multi-speed control
- Laser particulate sensors
- Ozone-free
- ~500 sq ft coverage
Commercial facilities typically target 10–12 ACH for true microbial suppression.
Room Size ACH (500 CFM Unit)
10 × 10 × 8 37.5
15 × 15 × 8 16.7
20 × 20 × 10 7.5
30 × 30 × 10 3.3
40 × 40 × 12 1.6
Multiple units or HVAC integration may be required for larger rooms.
UV Safety Disclaimer
- UVC and UVB are powerful scientific tools and must be used responsibly.
Safety Rules:
- Never operate UVC around people or pets
- Exposure can cause serious eye and skin injury
- UVB is plant-safe when used properly but should be introduced gradually
- Recommended PPE:
- UV-rated eyewear
- Gloves
- Long sleeves
- All Mammoth systems include shielding and safety controls during normal operation.
